“Seeds of Change” in Nyatike: Agroecology Training Builds Climate Resilience and Food Sovereignty [ENG]

Nyatike, 15 December 2025 – Africa CSID undertook a 2-day Seeds of Change training in Nyatike, underscoring the urgent need to strengthen community resilience in the face of climate variability and food insecurity. Through this initiative, Africa CSID has witnessed first-hand how agroecology can empower vulnerable households to adapt, thrive, and safeguard their livelihoods.

“Climate change doesn’t only disrupt harvests, it undermines stability, deepens inequality, and threatens the dignity of rural communities. The Seeds of Change program is our response: equipping farmers, women, and youth with tools to reclaim food sovereignty and resilience,” said Africa CSID’s Executive Director, Salome Owuonda.

Nyatike, a region long affected by erratic rainfall and resource scarcity, faces mounting challenges as climate shocks intensify. Families struggle with depleted soils, unreliable rainfall, and reduced yields. These pressures compound social vulnerabilities, particularly for women and youth who bear disproportionate burdens in sustaining households. By introducing practices such as Black Soldier Fly (BSF) keeping, organic soil management, and mixed cropping, the training enhanced local capacity to withstand climate stress and in the same breath fostering inclusive leadership.

Participants shared stories of renewed confidence: women farmers spoke of reclaiming agency in decision-making, while youth highlighted their role as innovators in sustainable farming.

Seeds of Change is part of Africa CSID’s broader mission to bridge grassroots realities with national and regional policy frameworks. By amplifying community voices, Africa CSID ensures that local knowledge informs strategies for food security, climate adaptation, and Gender Equality.

As the program continues, Africa CSID remains committed to nurturing partnerships that place communities at the center of solutions, planting the foundation for lasting change.
